I love the Promethean Board because it provides a variety of opportunities to present information to my students. My previous school did not have this technology available and at first I was a bit apprehensive. However, I have to come to embrace the many uses and applications that it provides in my classroom. I always have the Gladiator Word of the Day on the Promethean as my students walk into the classroom. Right away they are able to copy the definition and sentences into the vocabulary section of their notebook. Next, I usually have the notes that will be discussed in class on that day. I type the notes and display them in a large font so all the students can see them. The notes are easy to follow and the students are able to organized them in the different sections of their binder. I used to write my notes on the slides of an overheard projector, but there were numerous issues. Sometime my writing was unclear, too small, or the letters were smudged. Now I able to display them neatly and organized. In addition, I can save them for future classes. The Promethean board can also be used to show power point presentations or different websites. For instance, I can project a website that ties in with the reading of the day. In addition, I can display pictures for students to write about or describe. The uses for the Promethean are endless and I am glad to be able to have the use of mine.
Promethean Board Reflection As educators, what would instruction be without technology in this fast-moving- technology-driven society in which we are working? Our students enjoy everything and anything that has to do with the latest and most innovative methods of communication. Just as they love texting, and taking pictures and videos with their phones, they love to see the use of the same technology by their own teachers. That is why I use the promethean board in my classroom instruction everyday. I display class notes on the screen. I am able to scroll down the notes as I walk around the classroom with the touch of a remote control’s button, and save my work to go back to it as many times as I need to. With the promethean board I am able to display various screens simultaneously for the students. For example, I can display the word of the day and immediately the day’s bell ringer. I can go back to the word of the day with the electronic pen just by touching the screen or the click of the mouse. Students love to work with the promethean board as well. I like to review the Gladiator Words of the Week by using www.spellingcity.com; a fascinating site for vocabulary practice with all ages. My students sit back and enjoy seeing the display of colors in the screen, the music, the narrators, and are eagared to come up to play the games, or the “test me” activities. They all raise their hands to be called to write on the promethean. They can drag the words, touch buttons or links to create sentences, unscramble words, all with the use of a pen and a screen that comes to life right in front of their eyes. Using the promethean board enables me to keep the daily activities and lessons displayed on the regular ‘dry-erase’ board to the right and left of the classroom. Students sometimes become engage in conversations about how “cool” (as they call it) these boards are, and ask me if all other high schools are as fortunate to have this technology. In addition, I used the promethean board during open house to display a power point presentation to parents, and they also became fascinated with what their kids are exposed to in the classroom. I worry about ever working in a school that does not have such a fascinating tool. The lessons that we can create using the promethean are far more interesting than students or parents could ever expect.

Promethean Board is an exciting and useful educational technology together with other resources and educational technologies, for both teachers and students also. In science class plays an important role in the teaching-learning process. My students are familiar with its use in all the lessons both in the presentation of new material as well as its feedback. In our particular case, we use this technology to open pages in the internet, show PowerPoint presentations, solve problems, show clips from educational films related to the object of study, answer quizzes and tests, make graphs to communicate data, review vocabulary , FCAT review assignments and feedback of the studied material by different types of questions, among other uses. To illustrate this I shall just one example. After showing the clip of the film of the same name located in BrainPop Movies at http://www.brainpop.com/science/matterandchemistry/periodictableofelements/preview.weml, we answer and discuss the quiz included in the film. Then I show a PowerPoint presentation on this topic using the Interactive Chalkboard section 5 "Periodic Table”.Finally, students solve and /or participate in activities or assignments of varying complexity. For example, some interact with interactive periodic table online at www.chemicalelements.com/ - An Interactive Periodic Table of the Elements. An up-to-date periodic table with Detailed But Easy to Understand information, while other students will be answering a worksheet displayed on the Promethean Board or Smart Board such as: Worksheet: Periodic Table Puzzles Name___________________ CHEMISTRY: A Study of Matter Fictitious symbols are used for the first 18 elements in the periodic table. Use the clues below to write the fictitious symbol in the appropriate spot on the periodic table provided. Symbols for real elements do not represent those elements. HINT: You do not have to complete each clue in order.
Clue 1 U and J are alkali metals. J has more energy levels. Clue 2 T has 4 valence electrons on the 3rd energy level. Clue 3 M is a metal in period 3 with 2 valence electrons. Clue 4 X has one proton in its nucleus. Clue 5 Q has 2 energy levels, is a nonmetal, and is a solid at room temperature. Clue 6 L is a noble gas that doesn’t have 8 valence electrons. Clue 7 Z and Y are members of the nitrogen family. Y is a gas at room temperature. Clue 8 D has an ending electron distribution of s2p5. R has an ending electron distribution of s2. Clue 9 G has 6 valence electrons. Clue 10 V and W have full outer energy levels. V has 3 energy levels. Clue 11 A atoms have 3 valence electrons and E atoms have 6 valence electrons. Both are in the second period. Clue 12 K has one fewer total electrons than V. Clue 13 I has 3 valence electrons on the third energy level.
One of the simplest tasks would be to interpret what they have learned about the periodic table as shown in the following example:
A particular group of students is assigned to one of the tasks. Once students have completed a task, will do another and so on. In this way, students rotate through different assignments.

From the short time that I have had the privilege to work with a promethean board, I have found endless forms of innovative teaching ideas. My lessons are now far more interactive and student involved. It is absolutely amazing how using technology in the classroom affects the learning environment of the class.
One of the most student requested forms of promethean use is power point. I usually create interactive power points that include music, web links, active reading, etc. As I go through the lesson, I ask students to come up to the promethean board to complete a task. Before promethean, students had to be asked to come up by force. Now with the promethean, students volunteer more since they love to use the interactive board.
A lesson that was a total success using the promethean board was a class I taught on “Mood”. I created a power point using music, videos, movie trailers, poems, and pictures. The response from the students was outstanding. Because it required active participation from all the students, the engagement in the class was 100 percent. From a teacher’s point this is beyond success. I have to say the promethean helped me gain the goal I wanted for the class.
Another great tool the promethean allows teachers to do is the display of notes for a class. Teachers have the facility to type from a keyboard where it reflects on the board. This tool has helped me in the past to demonstrate steps to outlines, sequence of events, task directions, writing prompts, etc. The ability to use color for organization and font size for clarity has really made an impact in my student’s knowledge gain.
The promethean board has impacted my student’s learning in a positive way by engaging them more in my lessons, facilitating access to educational resources, and providing the ability to access multiple intelligences.
The Promethean board is an asset in my classroom. It makes learning come alive as it creates a dynamic virtual environment which allows students to be active participants in their learning.
The Promethean board is a tool that allows students to interact with the lesson or activity. It is a wonderful educational tool and my students are meaninfully engaged in their learning throughout the school day. They really enjoy the technology.
After being trained, I’ve used the Promethean board every day, from projecting the word of the day to teaching how to score FCAT Writing essays. I recently found it most useful when I utilized it to teach good test-taking strategies to my 12th grade Intensive Reading students. While I had previously guided them through the steps to good test-taking, they were unable to get a clear visual of my instructions since each of us was looking at our own individual copy of the Amsco workbook. After scanning a passage and projecting it using the Promethean board, the students’ understanding improved because each student could see the process step by step, from which words I underlined in the questions to what I underlined within the passage. They were able to directly copy my modeling and have since continued to employ the same process. I am pleased to see them read the questions and underline key words within them before beginning to read a passage. Just last week, one of my fourth period students told me the good test-taking strategies I taught her and her classmates have become a habit because she follows the process each time she takes a test. She giggled as she confessed that she even uses the skills in her math class; had it not been for seeing the process modeled on the Promethean board, she said she would likely have made no change to her previous test-taking method, or lack thereof. Along with her classmates, she is now able to direct her attention as she reads.
I use the promethean board every day because it is great technology that enhances my student’s learning environment by providing visual stimulus. The students really like this technology because they like to come up to the board and interact with it, for example, during the use of Gizmos. In addition, the tools menu allows me to change the colors and pencil size font, highlight text, or even type into it with a keyboard. I am able to save my class notes for future exam reviews, which I really like. I also like it because it is power point friendly. There is also the use of the promethean planet website resource. The promethean board is a really good investment that the school has made and I am very grateful that my classroom has this technology available.
Promethean Board Using the Promethean Board, I created a lesson where students used an interactive graphic organizer to identify facts about the characters in Beowulf. The students enjoyed getting up to fill in important information like, personality traits, descriptions, feelings, and behavior for each character. The lesson was very engaging and ultimately the students learned what they needed to prepare them for the quiz and a better understanding of the story. Before the lesson began, I was also able to locate a flip chart that had already been created to review the Medieval times, that helped build background information. The students look forward to using the board daily and as a result of using it, they scored very well on the closing assessment.
