  1. Differntiated instructions allow students to work on their skills appropriate to their needs. Three things that were clarified to me are the strategies that can be used, the learning styles of students and how to apply them. The one strategy I like the following strategies the KNWS and the Tiered assignments. The tiered assignments I can use differtent activities to ensure students learning. The KNWS can be used to explre word problems in real life context. The most important aspect about differentiated instructions is to be able to identify the students abilities in all aspect and use differrent strategies to differnet groups of learning styles.

  2. Through the workshop I was enlightened about several ideas when it comes to differentiated instruction:
(3)Three things that I learned were that differentiated instruction is not a new idea, but something that has been studied and found to be very successful in the classroom, assessments do not always have to be a multiple choice test, but can be projects that meet benchmarks or the learning objective, and students can be given choices as to their assignment to show what they learned and if they truly grasped the lesson.
(2)Two interesting ideas that I learned about differentiated instruction is that you can get great ideas for lessons from your fellow faculty members in other content areas and I also found it interesting that a lesson can use different learning styles to help students succeed. For example, a bodily/kinesthetic learner can perform or act out a scene instead of writing down a summary.
(1)The most important aspect of differentiated instruction that I must keep in mind when planning lessons is being fair to all students. Differentiated instruction is all about providing students a fair environment where they can learn the material in a way that does not make them feel inadequate, but at the same time is challenging enough and makes them demonstrate that they have learned the information successfully.

  3. Three things I learned were: How to focus differentiated instruction specifically for mathematics, that assessing student progress does not necessarily have to be through typical pencil-and-paper testing, and that differentiated instruction can be incorporated easily into lesson plans.
Two things about differentiated instruction: I'm interested in figuring out how it is that differentiated instruction is observed by visitors during IPEGS evaluations when they do not stay long enough in the classroom. I would also like to find out if there would be more PD sessions geared toward specific subject matter such as math.
One thing I feel is most important about differentiated instruction when planning for instruction: I think that if we as educators do not include some differentiated instruction methods into our lessos, we are definitely short-changing our students and depriving them of real quality education.

Three things that I learned were: you can change the degree of difficulty not necessarily the learning goal; teachers differentiate through content, process and product; and frontloading is giving the students background information.
I would like to learn how all elective teachers apply DI in their specific classes and what would be the ideal room arrangement for each class.

One important aspect of DI is that as teachers, we have to rethink teaching and learning process and we should teach every child as if he/she were our own.

  5. Three things I learned were differentiated instruction include a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students, while considering the student's readiness, interest, and learning profiles. Differentiated instruction requires teachers to make modifications in instruction for students rather than assume students modify themselves to fit the curriculum.

I am interested in additional professional development and would like to learn more about specific assessment tools, student activities, and lesson plans that I can incorporate in my program. Additionally, I would like to know how teachers might work together to implement differentiated instruction practices when planning integrated lessons.

One of the most important aspects of differntiated instruction is the understanding that one size fits all instruction does not address the needs of most students. Differentiated instruction allows for ongoing assessment as well as adjustment in curriculum to meet the needs of all students.

  6. Three things about differentiated instruction that I learned were 1) how DI is guided by general principles such as respectful tasks, flexible grouping, ongoing assessment and adjustment, 2) how teachers can differentiate content, process, and product, and 3) how teachers can differentiate according to student’s readiness, interest, and learning profile.

I feel the most important aspect about differentiated instruction is planning and being able to meet each student’s needs. “A teacher in a differentiated classroom does not classify herself as someone who ‘already differentiates instruction.’ Rather that teacher is fully aware that every hour of teaching, every day in the classroom can reveal one more way to make the classroom a better match for its learners.”

  7. One of the most important things about differentiated instruction that I learned about in the Professional Development session was the different ways in which everybody learns: visually (images, pictures, illustrations, etc.), visual reading (written instructions, text, etc.), auditory (hearing directions or listening to instructions), and kinesthetic (hands-on or touch-based learning, physical interaction, etc.). It was also clarified for me how important it is for people to learn based on what their particular learning style is. For example, if someone is an auditory learner, they are more likely to grasp the understanding of the material if they hear an explanation rather than read about it. The third thing I learned was how to use different teaching strategies to adapt to the various learning styles one finds in the classroom. That way, teachers can accommodate the different learning styles of the students and maximize their ability to understand what is being taught.

While the Professional Development session included a great deal of information regarding differentiated instruction, there are a couple of things I would like to learn more about, such as various strategies teachers can use to identify each student’s learning style in order to tailor instruction to fit each student’s needs. Another area that can be explored more in-depth would be specific examples of how to compartmentalize one lesson plan to fit the four different learning styles at the same time without short-changing any one over another.

I feel that the most important aspect about differentiated instruction would be to know how much of a difference it can make when a student learns based on his/her particular learning style. Learning new material in a way that conforms to their individual learning style can make a huge difference in how successful students can be toward achieving a clear understanding of the material.

  8. Three things that I learned about differentiated instruction are:
    1. Students enjoy methods other than the traditinal lecture/test method.
    2. It is actually very easy to incorporate differentiated instruction into your lesson.
    3. It is important to appeal to the different learning styles in order to keep students engaged and allow them to work to their potential.

Two things that I am interested in learning about differentiated instruction are:
    1. Some activities specific to mathematics content.
    2. Differentiated methods on evaluating a students progress.

The most important thing to keep in mind when planning for differentiated instruction is that all studetns have different needs. It is important to appeal to all learning styles wheneer possible.

  9. Three things learned:
    1. Students different learning styles
    2. Assessing students learning in many ways
    3. Modify lessons for DI

Two things I am interested in learning about DI:
    1. More strategies applied to the Math classroom
    2. How teachers are evaluated for DI during visits

The most important aspect about DI is to that teachers must take into account each students learning needs in order for them to succeed in your class.

  10. Differentiated instruction 1. appeals to a variety of learning styles and types. 2. requires a variety of instructional methods. 3. takes preparation, classroom management and organization.
I'm interested in learning 1. how to collaborate effectively with teachers of other subjects when differentiating instruction. 2. how to create a rubric that is fair for all students when utilizing DI.
The most important thing about DI is not to be afraid to give it a chance. The classroom may be noisy due to the variety of activities. However, students are more engaged when they are given more opportunities to be successful.
